Women in African countries are being raped under the myth that having sex with a virgin will cure aids among many other ills that a society that is illiterate has. It's true that perhaps what you've said is a wrong in society, but it's not the only wrong in society. You simply don't have a lot of perspective on actual trauma that people are experiencing in this country and the world.

I can turn around your sentences to showcase these issues as addictions and power desires, not "messages" on femininity and masculinity or reactions to the opposite sex. The "I want as much money to buy whatever I want and as much safety as I can provide for myself" mentality women have and the "I can be as free from responsibility as I want while being as powerful as I want to feel in an imaginary world or in my head" mentality men have are harmful to men and women. See in this way, the desire comes from within and not as a response to another sex. Both come from a lack of discipline and  both are fixable from a desire to change oneself.[/quote]
