Tom Cruise is an anal perfectionist. Alec is an anything-goes type of guy. Surely you can see that about them. This is why, despite the fact that Alec did not know the gun was loaded, it is partially his responsibility, *as a lead actor and producer*, that a person died on set. You are perfectly correct, if he wanted to, he could have had the clout to enforce better safety precautions on set. And he should have.

Anyway, as one of the producers, the buck has to stop somewhere. He may not be as guilty as the armorer who physically put the live round in there, but he does bear some of the burden, just like all top people do when accidents happen in the workplace.
