Your top 5 player argument is false and it is getting old. There are 333 D1 womens soccer programs (though not all fully funded). https://www.ncsasports.org/womens-soccer/division-1-colleges The average roster size is 29. The average recruiting class is 7. 333 D1 schools * 7 recruits per class = 2331 There are 52 ECNL clubs with a U18 team (from what I could find...this may be less) There are 72 DA teams with a U18/19 team.
Genuinely curious, where did you get your numbers? Going to the ECNL standings, there are 94 U18/19 teams plus 44 U18/19 composite teams, so you're way low there but looking at the DA standings, there are only 59 active U18/19 teams so you're way high there.
Just a quick google search. I wasn't going to spend the time to count. They are close enough to prove the PP point that bench players don't play D1, that only the top 5 players on each team play D1. Foolish thinking. And a stat I didn't mention that ECNL publishes is how many go on to play D1. The numbers took a huge hit this past season (1633 total players, 847 D1) with only 52% going D1. Previous seasons that number hovered between 75-85%. Lots of players that don't play ECNL or DA can and will get recruited D1. But it is a harder road IMO. The team will get less visibility and less coaches. Parents/players have to do ALL the work and hit ID camps.
