I was abused by a female pre-school worker during naptime for an entire school year when I was 4. She threatened to kill my parents if I told. I finally got the guts to tell my mom when we were on a vacation. So it's not always family members
What did your mom do?
She reported it. I was too young to testify. The preschool did not even fire her, because if they did, it would be admitting fault, and they didn't want to get sued.
I'm glad she believed you and said something but I'm sad that the pre-school worker was allowed to keep her job. If something like that happened with my DD I would make a HUGE stink about it.
Oh she made a big deal about it. My dad is a lawyer, and they contemplated suing and a number of other avenues, but didn't want me to go through more than I had to. They presented the option to me when I was older, because we still could have gone through with a civil suit, but honestly I didn't want to either. However, we have kept track of her over the years, and whenever she tries to work with children again, we contact the employer and let them know about her past. So we at least attempt to limit further damage.
This scares the crap out of me. How in the world did this go on for a whole year without other teachers seeing her??
Hospitals protect incompetent and drug addicted doctors, lawyers protect other lawyers when they know they are dishonest and screw their clients, and schools protect teachers because they don't want the bad publicity and they don't want to be sued. Look at how long the Catholic church protected pedophile priests and made it even worse because the church simply sent the priest to another parish where he engaged in the same behavior.
