Here’s what they need to do. Once they refab the building and make it theirs, maybe find a way to make more capacity, they need to take all of Coates that fed to Westfield, take all of Crossfield, all of Floris, all of Fox Mill, All of McNair, and all of Oak Hill. Knowing FCPS, they’ll find a way to squeeze kids into that building. It’s their obsession.
I still think they should send McNair to Herndon so they can fit Oak Hill, Crossfield, Fox Mill, McNair, and Floris into Western. Herndon is under capacity!
McNair would be an attendance island at Herndon, assuming the Westfield part of Coates goes to Western. They are saving Herndon to take part of Langley in 2031.
Even at this late hour, still trying to make fetch happen. Such a loser.
Now, now. You have years to plot your escape, but that's their plan.
It is not their plan. I agree that steps need to be taken to guard against it. But growth in Herndon is going to make it a lot tougher to move families six years from now. The justification won’t be there, especially if they make each middle school level IV.
The flip side is that growth in Tysons is going to make a lot tougher not to move families six years from now.
The thing that matters is Herndon growth because the only reason they could attempt to move part of Langley is because of under utilization in Herndon. Langley isn’t overcapacity and I’d projected to lose a ton of students over the next few years as their elementary school feeders are collectively down a lot of students. It’ll be some time before Langley gets to critical numbers, if it ever does. I get that it’s a lot of people’s wet dream to get that move done, but the numbers aren’t going to trend in that direction, at least in the next decade.
LOL! GFCA has made it clear that no one else is to be redistricted into Langley after the move of Spring Hill--which puts Langley slightly over capacity.
There are a bunch of variables, but it's a potential game changer to reassign part of Tysons to Langley, which seems like a sure thing at this point. There's only so much the GFCA can do about that. It's about 200 kids right off the bat, and then you have the people who'll move into those condos/apartments because they now have a far less expensive way to get zoned to Langley than they've ever had before. On top of that you have the additional construction in the pipeline in the reassigned area. My take is that FCPS decided to play long ball and wait and see whether the numbers are there in 5-10 years to move part of Langley to Herndon. For now, Herndon is sitting with 700 extra seats and they aren't lifting a finger to fill any of them. A PP said McNair should go to Herndon and it's more likely McNair will be zoned for Western, with part of Langley reassigned to Herndon over the next decade.
