This proposal looks like it will fail. Much like the Disney deal back in Haymarket area back in the 90s. The fears of congestion, too many people and traffic and over development. What people couldn't see back then , was it was going to happen with or without Disney. I get it bc I lived here in the 90s and back then we just couldn't see any boon coming to that area. Would Disney have been better than the over building of McMansions? Maybe. Maybe not. The arena deal is the same way. It's impossible to know what forces will shape the future. In the early 90s we didn't understand the impact of technology or the internet on the DMV area. And there will be something else in the future that we don't know today.
I don't like the deal but at the end of the day it's likely to happen. Leonsis, Monumental and their foundation will agree to make a substantial "investment" in the state senator's district, including contributions to favored "community organizations" and contracts with identified "consultants." And don't forget the sports facilities for kids programs. All for the state senator to steer a large piece of the pie.
