I am not a parent and either of these schools but: YAY for Ross, that is AMAZING! Yay for Eaton! Impressed with Basis and think it has a direct relation of th Latin's significant drop in scores Stoddert is earning the S in the now ERJKLMMS!! Very impressed with Stoddert, larger OOB, minority and FARM than many schools WOTP and still scores keep rising. Keep it up YY (shake the haters off)! Why don't Shepherd, Mckinley High, and Banneker get love on DCUM? Can't help to think it's a race thing. Especially since Shepherd is only 33% FARM (79% black), aren't those the "safe" ones you want your kid to go to school with? :)
Shepherd it's a fair amount of love. However with McKinley and Banneker it seems like posters on DCUM use the SATs scores to prove the schools aren't as good as they would seem. Plus it seems to me it's one thing to send your kid to a majority minority school for free preschool or lower grades but it's not ok to do the same in high school even though it's a high performing rigorous school.
Shepherd is damn far away in the wrong direction for most families. But McKinley and Banneker have a huge disconnect with the folks that frequent this board. It's going to take a massive outreach on both sides to breakthrough that.
I call BS about Shepherd's location. Many EOTP families cross town to go OOB to Hearst worse performing charters charters. The few that do apply to Shepherd do to get into Deal. Also PP, the 47% AA is not the same as 98% at Banneker. Huge difference. You can keep telling yourself you're not racist by sending your kids to Wilson (with worse scores) that's half black if it makes you feel better. Let's have a serious discussion like 11:36 tried.
Your argumentation style (Racist! Racist!) isn't conducive to any type of civilized discussion. You fail to understand that many of the people attending Wilson are IB for Wilson. Banneker is quite a bit further, and given that white students at Wilson perform wonderfully (per test scores), the tradeoff of worse commute and fewer neighborhood friends for no improvement in scores is damning. yeah, it could be that. But, on the other hand, it's easier to call someone a racist instead. Go back under your bridge.
Wilson is 46% OOB. There are many white people outside Wilson boundaries. Even if you're making a point, what about the folks that can't get into Wilson? White people are going and applying to SWS but not Banneker, why? Banneker is very convenient to most families by car and metro.
