I hear you OP. I am 53 and about to be divorced. The last first date I went on was 25 years ago. When I look at 53 year old men it feels like I am looking at my father and I'm having a hard time with what any dating pool may look like. Of course, personality and character have always been more important to me and people's physical characteristics are enhanced by positive non-physical characteristics, but still....Regarding dating younger men, I could try and most people guess me at 40 or even late thirties and I feel like I'm a teenager, but once they find out my real age, why would someone younger want to date a 53 year old? It seems like men would want to date a younger woman, esp if they have not been married yet (so they can have kids). For me to be the younger woman, I would have to date someone in their 60s or 70s, and then I really would be looking at someone at a similar age to my father! I'm going to try and get out there but also feel like I missed the boat and will be single going forward. [/quote]

To answer your question, younger men who don’t want kids or are not sure will often date older women. It takes the pressure off. I am OPs age and dating in that general pool until I meet a longterm partner. I am told I look young for my age though. Many women in their early 30s assumed I am their age and am shocked to find otherwise. I got asked if I was a college student the other day… granted this was by an elderly person, but it’s true that when I was in my 30s everyone assumed I was in my 20s.

There are some guys in their late 40s and 50s who look ok but they are the exception and not the rule.[/quote]
