So the guy has to be successful, good looking, tall, smart and of course adore her. She will have these flings or one night stands and then pass up decent age appropriate men saying they look old.

Let's try using an example since you are having trouble picking this up.

Think about a 53-year-old man posting that he was: 1) fit and fun, 2) dating a 25-year-old model/influencer, and 3) finding that age-appropriate women looked too old for him to find attractive.

This example is point-for-point the same as yours. And equally as unlikely.

I'm a real man, fool.

I've dated women much younger, my age, and several years older. Attractive, interesting people of all ages have many choices. Unfortunately for me, I was attractive enough to start a relationship with a hot, smart, athletic woman like the woman dating the firefighter but I wasn't able to keep her. She is was almost ten years younger than me and the firefighter (not his real job) was almost ten years younger than her.

The same thing has happened in the other direction. I've been in relationships with women in their mid 50s who were still attractive and still sexual. They were great in bed, and they were interesting and smart and fun, but I lost interest after a few months. I prefer someone younger who is also interesting and smart and fun.

I hear you OP. I am 53 and about to be divorced. The last first date I went on was 25 years ago. When I look at 53 year old men it feels like I am looking at my father and I'm having a hard time with what any dating pool may look like. Of course, personality and character have always been more important to me and people's physical characteristics are enhanced by positive non-physical characteristics, but still....Regarding dating younger men, I could try and most people guess me at 40 or even late thirties and I feel like I'm a teenager, but once they find out my real age, why would someone younger want to date a 53 year old? It seems like men would want to date a younger woman, esp if they have not been married yet (so they can have kids). For me to be the younger woman, I would have to date someone in their 60s or 70s, and then I really would be looking at someone at a similar age to my father! I'm going to try and get out there but also feel like I missed the boat and will be single going forward.


To answer your question, younger men who don’t want kids or are not sure will often date older women. It takes the pressure off. I am OPs age and dating in that general pool until I meet a longterm partner. I am told I look young for my age though. Many women in their early 30s assumed I am their age and am shocked to find otherwise. I got asked if I was a college student the other day… granted this was by an elderly person, but it’s true that when I was in my 30s everyone assumed I was in my 20s.

There are some guys in their late 40s and 50s who look ok but they are the exception and not the rule.

I’m around the same age as OP, dating after divorce.

Most men our age, with some exceptions, don’t look great.

I’ve dated many nice men in the late 30s early 40s range. They are lovely and still energetic. Have not seen any immature/ obnoxious behavior. If anything these men are more respectful of women than the Gen Xers I dated in my 20s. Their generation was raised with higher expectations in terms of being respectful and treating women like equals. It’s especially noticeable in bed.
