The 9:50 schedule actually is perfect for middle school.

It will keep them out of trouble from 2:30-5:00, getting them out of school around the time their parents get off work.

Unfortunately,  there wouldn't be enough teachers to staff that late of a schedule

And what about the time before school? Middle and high school starting later is better than ES starting later because middle and high-schoolers can get themselves to the bus without their parents having to be home but thats still time they wouldn't be supervised and could get into trouble. The middle schoolers are far more likely to get into trouble when they are wide awake and unsupervised for 2-3 hours in tge afternoon after school, than at 8 to 9 AM when they are at home sleeping or getting ready for school
