I am hoping that the change to AAP for all middle schools frees up enough busses the they can just shift middle school start times by 30 minutes overall without changing anyone else.

This SB is committed to healthy start times so it will be one of the 2 options. Take the survey with that in mind..."neither" is a wasted vote.

HS schedule should not be altered. There are so many things kids that age are involved in. Work, sports, clubs, etc. There are thousands of kids who help support themselves or their family by working after school. Every minute your start school later you are taking money out of their pocket.
Elementary kids are dependent on their parents for pickup and drop off. Based on the wait list for SACC and other childcare services messing with the start/end times would need to be advertised at least two years in advance to allow families to make plans and adjust their life/work schedules accordingly.
Lastly, if parents and the school district feel starting all schools after 8am is non-negotiable then PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS AND FUND IT!! Moving MS start times doesn’t have to be done at the detriment of other groups. The fact that we must “screw” some group of students/families is a false narrative.

Adjusting to MS early start time is doable, either Fcps buy more school buses just for MS, or bare with it for 2 years. Mess up current ES/MS/HS schedule to accommodate MS just makes things much more complicated, issues like childcare, afterschool programs and HS sports etc, and you delay start time by 2 hours, kids go to bed 2 hours late.

The 9:50 schedule actually is perfect for middle school.

It will keep them out of trouble from 2:30-5:00, getting them out of school around the time their parents get off work.

Unfortunately, there wouldn't be enough teachers to staff that late of a schedule

And what about the time before school? Middle and high school starting later is better than ES starting later because middle and high-schoolers can get themselves to the bus without their parents having to be home but thats still time they wouldn't be supervised and could get into trouble.

High schools need to keep their current time schedule.

High school grades are the only grades that matter for college admission. Their sports, jobs and activities often go as late as 10PM, and again, are the only ones that matter for college admissions.

Middle school is only 2 years, and their grades and activities have zero bearing on college admissions. The least convenient schedule needs to remain with the middle school students.

The middle schoolers are far more likely to get into trouble when they are wide awake and unsupervised for 2-3 hours in tge afternoon after school, than at 8 to 9 AM when they are at home sleeping or getting ready for school

The middle school kids will get to sleep until 8:30 AM.

I would rather have the middle schoolers at home until 9-9:15AM, then out destroying the local shopping plazas each day after school from 2:15-5:00 when their parents swing by to pick them up.

It would be worth a few missed bus rides.
