What's a normal amount of AP courses for a student to take? Looking at my IB student's projected track, they will take 4-5 college-level courses over the course of their four years in high school. (AP government sophomore year, then 3-4 higher-level classes). I don't intend any attack here; I'm just curious if AP students generally take more or if this is similar. I grew up with AP in FCPS, but I don't have any problems with IB. The big thing about it is that parents use it as a means to transfer from one school to another.
I think the transfers will go way down due to new VHSL eligibility requirements for scholar athletes. Transfers for IB or AP within FCPS (or for world or classical languages) now violate eligibility rules due to the Hayfield scandal. However, districts like APS, Henrico, etc., that have a unique, limited admit magnet program based on a grade/credit/or entry exam requirement, are exempt. So the IB Diploma magnet program in APS, which has a limited number of slots and strict entry and qualification requirements, is exempt from the new VHSL rules. TJHSST is also exempt, so all of those transfer students can also play VHSL sports.
