JMU is a great school for kids from NOVA who don't want to be far from Mommy & Daddy.
And IU is a great school for kids from Indiana who don't want to be far from Mommy & Daddy. This is fun!
I am not sure this is accurate. Suburban Chicago sends a lot of students to IU, and it is a significantly longer drive than to Bloomington than, let's say, West Lafayette. It is not Univ of Illinois, either, where students can simply take the train back home to Chicago. And JMU is two hours from NoVa - not like Bloomington where it is an hour to Indy and then (especially if you live in the northern suburbs) another 4.5 hours up 65 and the Toll Way and home. About 40 from my Lake County high school class went to IU - a great choice because after Univ of Ill the public colleges are simply not that desirable (a fact, not an opinion given the falling enrollment at Illinois schools). I competed in D1 athletics in college and found IU not an easy place to get to from the East Coast. JMU a different story. One thing that is relevant is where you might want to live after graduation. IU funnels a lot to Chicago and Indianapolis. JMU can more easily land one in DC. Get the most out of wherever you go.
