Garibaldi is an Italian hero. Michaelangelo, Dante, Andrea Pirlo, Pavarotti,... those are Italian heroes. Not a second rate guy from Genoa who worked for Spain before Italian unification. Columbus was only chosen because of his tenuous link to America. For that matter Amerigo Vespucci would have been a better choice. Nowadays there are a lot of actual Italian-Americans that would be a better symbol.[/quote]
