Play dates. I have heard all kind of excuses for not allowing their child to come to my house. This kid has play dates with other non-black kids. Just depressing.
This is the absolute worst! Unfortunately, I have experienced this.
Growing up in an 97% white UMC/ UC area as an AA, YES!! Now, in upper MC, kids love coming over. It is a good feeling to see kids of all races playing in our house.
When my DS was in the early grades we lived in a low-income neighborhood where a lot of immigrants and refugees obtained housing (scattered site public housing, small apt buildings, and single family homes). Once when I brought him to school there was a big ring of girls sitting on the floor in the gym before school started playing some kind of hand game. Kurdish, Bosnian, Vietnamese, Cambodia, Haitian, native American, white non-immigrant kids. It was so awesome.
