Also wanted to add that one reason people don't use names from their own/their parents' generation is that people shy away from names of people they know personally. I have friends my age named Violet, Tristan, Amelia, and Henry. These are all names I like and might have considered but it would be too weird to name my child "after" a friend even if that's not what I was doing. There are a couple of names from my generation that I like and would consider, but then I think about how the people I know who have those names might feel weird if I used one of them. Am I the only one who is reluctant to use a name of someone I know?
I get this. I have a daughter named Amy, a preschooler. It's not that common today, but of course everyone from about age 20 to 40 knows an Amy, or two, or twenty. Good associations and bad. Plenty of baggage. For a little girl, though, it's a sweet, classic name and more importantly now, it's HER name. So if you really like a name, go for it.
