[/quote] There was a news article that quoted several other released North Korean prisoners who said that they were generally treated well from a health perspective, and not beaten/tortured, and had their health monitored, because NK did not want and American prisoner to die. That's why I find it credible that maybe Otto did have some kind of viral illness that affected his brain and/or caused paralysis. Even something like Guillan Barre. Or an overdose/suicide attempt.
