Step parents are really selfish. I get the instinct to be a parent and raise a child, but force yourself into an existing family and expect to be given full rights as the mother (or father) of the house. Selfish, selfish, selfish
Wow. I'll let my stepchildren know that you think I am selfish. Their mother pretty much disappeared after she lost primary custody. She had visitation rights every other weekend and four weeks during the summer. She chose not to exercise those rights and saw them maybe once or twice a year for a couple of days at most. I raised them. I was up all night with them when they were sick. I rushed them to the ER when they were hurt. I was there to help with homework. I was there for proms and graduations. I was there for all the sporting events, parent/teacher conferences, successes and disappointments. I was there for college visitations and college move in days. I love my stepchildren so very deeply and would literally give my life for them. And yes, I do have biological children as well. They are all MY children. How they entered my life is irrelevant. Also, my biological children have a stepmother. She is loving, caring, and was a great other-mother to my children on visitation weekends. She is much more fun than I am because she is laid-back, adventurous and open to just about anything. They are so lucky to have her in their lives. Kids can't have too many people in their lives who love and support them. I am thankful that my ex-husband married someone who not only loves him but chose to love his children. Your opinion isn't just "in the strong minority"...it's based on ignorance.
