Not a weird question. The internet is global, but somehow the EU has arrogated to itself the right to police it for the world, including very heavy fines for companies operating out of nonEU territories for content they do not like that weirdly is not aimed at child porn.

The real beef is that no EU company employing Europeans on EU soil has an internet media operation with truly global reach.  The hope is that by censoring and fining nonEU companies, they will promote the rise of an EU internet media champion.
