You're making up an "accusation" that hasn't been lodged to try and paper over the fact that you think getting rezoned to KAA will get you out of a school you don't want to attend, even if that school has capacity or has been the beneficiary of major FCPS investment. It's absolutely obscene that neither you nor FCPS staff has shared any business case for why this impulse buy is a cost-efficient use of scarce FCPS capital resources. For what it's worth, however, you are betting on the demographics of the new school being acceptable, because some of you are the same folks who threw a fit when they were talking about a new school near Hutchison ES in Herndon. A school at that site also would have closer than some of your current schools, but you fought it tooth and nail because you knew both Hutchison and Coates would feed into a school at that site. Swap Hutchison with Fox Mill or Crossfield, and you're ready to sign up.
The school has been purchased. Your Hutchison argument is a very big fail. Have you been there? How would these schools access it? All the traffic going toward the DTR and hanging a left at where Kohl's was. All the traffic coming from one direction at the same time. It would have backed up to the DTR and competed with morning Metro traffic. It was a terrible site--and they knew it and dropped it. The only reason they ever recommended it is because they couldn't find a good site. And, that was because they gave away the KAA site because of political pressure from above. But, you know this. And, I am not districted to Westfield. Hutchison would not have been closer than our current high school.
The Hutchinson site would have been a disaster. We had friends who lived in that neighborhood and the road would have been massively overwhelmed by HS traffic. I also believe that the site was not big enough for sports fields and the like. And it would have been a high FARMs school; there would not have been a way to work the boundaries that would have had it anything but a high FARMs school. A high FARMs school with no field space would have been a bad optic, so that wasn't going to happen.
