It's not really relevant, but the FARMS rates for both Floris and McNair Upper are lower than Westfield. Only Coates is higher, and part of Coates goes to Herndon.
McNair is 29 vs Westfield 31. Coates is at over 5 FARMS. Floris is lower, but one of the wealthier portions of Floris goes to South Lakes. A good portion of Floris that goes to Westfield is from multi-family housing. There are several areas that are single family--but not large neighborhoods. Since it seems to be the accusation that it is wealthy people that want out of Westfield, you are very, very mistaken. It has also been implied that the people at KAA will be an elite population. No. It will be a very diverse population. Isn't that what FCPS wants? It would have a nice mix--but definitely not a wealthy--nor an impoverished school. And, FWIW, the areas from Coates, Floris, and McNair have a much, much higher percentage of English language learners. And, again, this area is not connected to any other Westfield neighborhoods.
You're making up an "accusation" that hasn't been lodged to try and paper over the fact that you think getting rezoned to KAA will get you out of a school you don't want to attend, even if that school has capacity or has been the beneficiary of major FCPS investment. It's absolutely obscene that neither you nor FCPS staff has shared any business case for why this impulse buy is a cost-efficient use of scarce FCPS capital resources. For what it's worth, however, you are betting on the demographics of the new school being acceptable, because some of you are the same folks who threw a fit when they were talking about a new school near Hutchison ES in Herndon. A school at that site also would have closer than some of your current schools, but you fought it tooth and nail because you knew both Hutchison and Coates would feed into a school at that site. Swap Hutchison with Fox Mill or Crossfield, and you're ready to sign up. The issue around connectivity to other Westfield neighborhoods is BS. The part of Floris that got rezoned to South Lakes in 2008 wanted to stay at Westfield at the time because they didn't want IB, and no one talked about it being separated from other Westfield neighborhoods.
No one wanted to move to SLHS when they were. A good number of the people at SLHS who were moved there want to move to KAA or would be happy to be rezoned back to Oakton. Lots of people don't like IB. I am growing more convinced that Fox Mill won't be moved because they want to prevent the FARMs numbers from increasing at SLHS and losing SLHS and Floris to KAA would decrease the number of students available to take IB classes. SLHS doesn't have enough interest to offer many STEM IB classes at the HL, moving Floris kids alone will decrease the IB population. Fox Mill would decimate the numbers.
