Trump is bringing visibility to a serious issue. This is how he does it. If you don't realize that by now, you haven't been paying attention.
What is the serious issue? Transit fees and ship quotas caused by drought and low water levels?
This isn't some petty bete noire of Trump’s. The Panama Canal is the transport mechanism for huge amounts of American goods, and US companies and consumers stand to gain a lot from evening the playing field. You really haven't provided an answer to any of this beyond "nuh uh" and "your dumb" and lots of cuss words. But these are indeed serious issues that the US has been tracking for quite some time.
Exactly.
Ok, but explain to me how we are going to take it back without sending US troops there to do so? I thought Trump wanted to get us out of foreign wars. Of course, his record isn't very good on that...
My guess is that Trump opens negotiations via the Madman Theory, "we'll take it back" and our diplomats enter and renegotiate provisions and fees more beneficial to America, and more detrimental to our adversaries -- the Chinese. No lethal force needed, but you never take it off the table. The canal is all they have, and they will come to the table. I agree with the PP above who said that the point of diplomacy is to advance American interests, full stop. As a moderate who voted for Kamala, this entire thread is embarrassing on the part of Democrats. This is -- not a bad idea. You need to stop being so reflexively, insultingly anti-Trump. The name-calling doesn;t work. This election wasn't a fluke. You need to start coming to terms with that. He has some good ideas, and his Madman Theory frequently works. For example. I'd give an 80% chance that because of his "hell to pay if the hostages aren't returned by Jan 20" there will be a deal in the coming days. The Middle East doesn't want this smoke, and Trump doesn't give one single f*ck about appearances, so they are going to want to wrap this disaster up. Which by every measure, will be a greater success than the Biden Admin was able to finagle in 1.5 years.
