Fine, I’ll give them Alaska. MAGA thinks it’s fine to grab land, so they can fight Russia if they care.

Trump is never prudent about anything so now China is blocking the sale of the ports in the canal zone to Blackrock.

This aged well.

But what in the world is Canada as a 51st state all about? Why would Trump think we want them to merge with us? I am baffled by this point.

It'll help out Canadians. They are in a pickle right now and statehood could help a lot. If they elect Polievre, though, this plan is toast.
.

Canada would not be one state, it would be ten new states electing 20 Senators who could vote to convict in Trump’s next impeachment.

Trump offered them statehood. Not states-hood. They can be #51. That's generous of us and they don't get to dictate the terms. Although I personally would be open to letting the Quebecois have their own state.

This post illustrates a fundamental flawed mindset of MAGA. They really think America is so exceptional that taking over other nations’ territory would be a “gift” to those populations. They have no idea that the rest of the developed world has left us in the dust in infrastructure and quality of life, and increasingly looks at us in pity and bewilderment.

"We" wont even offer Puerto Rico or DC statehood, but magas think we'll get canada and greenland. Idiots.

I’ll add that this mindset is very similar to Putin’s attitude toward Ukraine. They should *want* to be Russians because the Rus are a superior people. So erasing borders is some kind of gift.

Except the Rus you are talking about are actually Kievan Rus, which, ironically, originated in the area that is modern-day Ukraine.

Where’s the MAGA poster who thinks Blackrock is the worst thing ever? They’ve proposed a deal to buy both ports on either side of the Panama Canal from the Hong Kong-based company that owns them.

What is the serious issue? Transit fees and ship quotas caused by drought and low water levels?

This isn't some petty bete noire of Trump’s. The Panama Canal is the transport mechanism for huge amounts of American goods, and US companies and consumers stand to gain a lot from evening the playing field. You really haven't provided an answer to any of this beyond "nuh uh" and "your dumb" and lots of cuss words. But these are indeed serious issues that the US has been tracking for quite some time.

Exactly.

Ok, but explain to me how we are going to take it back without sending US troops there to do so? I thought Trump wanted to get us out of foreign wars. Of course, his record isn't very good on that...

My guess is that Trump opens negotiations via the Madman Theory, "we'll take it back" and our diplomats enter and renegotiate provisions and fees more beneficial to America, and more detrimental to our adversaries -- the Chinese. No lethal force needed, but you never take it off the table. The canal is all they have, and they will come to the table. I agree with the PP above who said that the point of diplomacy is to advance American interests, full stop.

As a moderate who voted for Kamala, this entire thread is embarrassing on the part of Democrats. This is -- not a bad idea. You need to stop being so reflexively, insultingly anti-Trump. The name-calling doesn;t work. This election wasn't a fluke. You need to start coming to terms with that.

He has some good ideas, and his Madman Theory frequently works. For example. I'd give an 80% chance that because of his "hell to pay if the hostages aren't returned by Jan 20" there will be a deal in the coming days. People who say this are morons. If you believe this, you are too much of a moron for me to explain why in detail. Bu
T let’s start here. They have zero desire to become American. You want a war with… Canada?

Probably an easier win than Panama.

I agree. One thing that seems to be happening in Canada right now is a united front across political spectrums (left, right, centre) to denounce this idea. Canadians do not want to be Americans, period.
