Do you watch the behind the scenes clips? The actor who plays him says he's playing a "bad king but a good person" or something like that. It's intentional. I assume it's setting up a conflict that will need to be resolved.

I did and I find myself having to watch those after every episode so I have a clue what’s going on. And I don’t understand why the female characters changed from the time warp and all the male characters are still played by the same actors.  I just think it’s such a waste of what could be good material.  It’s poorly executed.[/quote]

The Velaryon kids have had three sets of actors play them. In the first two episodes they were both played by children, so they could play up the "Viserys will not marry a 12 year old scene" and then for episode 3-5 they were played by young adult contemporaries of Rhaenyra. [/quote]
