Hunting rifles are actually sniper rifles - the most accurate type of gun there is. You really want nothing *but* sniper guns out there? Sounds like a terrible idea. [/quote]

I come from a hunting family and DO know what I'm talking about. Hunters can continue to own hunting weapons with a hunting permit and thorough background check. All other weapons are banned. I promise you it WILL drastically reduce the number of deaths. Most deaths are accidental, when idiots buy handguns to "protect their family" and the very family they are trying to protect is killed while playing with it. There is a barrier to entry with hunting gear. Most people won't bother.
