Already waitlisted at VT.
Highest math?
Yes. But Asian male.
I am so sorry. That should not be the case - and race should not even be a required piece of the app.
Many Asian males get in
You do understand that doesn’t answer the question, right? The question is whether Asian males have to have higher qualifications to get admitted than other groups. I don’t know about UVA but that’s clearly what the Harvard data showed in the lawsuit pending before the Supreme Court.
This student has 4.4 GPA, which is the borderline cutoff for UVA. UVA doesn't care as much about SAT as it does about GPA. Many of the kids from my DC's school had an 4.0 UW/4.5+ GPA. This is definitely not the case to be claiming discrimination against Asians.
Mother of the black URM who posted above. Here is another data point. My son has a 4.4 boarder-line GPA. He was not TO and his score was in the middle 50% range. He was waitlisted and given a guaranteed Wise campus transfer option. I’m only posting to counter the false claims that URMs are stealing spots. Also, we do have a Governor’s school, IB, and math and science specialty centers in my area. Meanwhile we are celebrating that my DS unexpectedly got accepted to a top LAC tonight. Congratulations to everyone who got in UVA and other great schools tonight.
What LAC and it is diverse? Mom of black DD looking for diverse LACs (in terms of black people) and not finding many. DD is a sophomore.
The LAC is not diverse based on % of black students unfortunately. Are you looking to stay in Virginia? Only t25 colleges or t50 national universities? I wouldn’t say many are diverse in terms of black kids within these criteria but I also care about location and I’m ok with a PWI in an economically and racially diverse (and fairly “safe”) location.
Most selective LACs aren't very diverse outside of maybe Amherst. However, there are some very good LACs out there that have good graduation rates, want to increase diversity and can provide an excellent education.
Quite a few are more diverse than Virginia public colleges.
