Arlington teams often seem at a disadvantage when they play on uneven, tall grass fields up in Maryland. It changes the game the kids are used to playing. Our non-DA kids had a hard time connecting the ball.
Most teams that train on one surface and play matches on another another have issues, not just Arlington. How well a player and team can adjust is the key.
God, yes. My kids play on grass and turf. They play in the street. They play on our lumpy, shitty weed-filled backyard lawn. Since they were small, we always told them that the ball moves slower in grass. Those passes need to be harder/sharper, etc. Playing on shitty conditions requires more ball control. Learning to manage the odd bounces, etc. The best you can do for a team is give them the opportunity to play on different surfaces.
