I'm a Westfield parent who was at the meeting. I was hoping to speak with someone from FCPS or the School Board after the meeting. So many people were complaining about being moved to our school. I was not sure how to stand up and say people should be moved whether they like it or not. Frankly I was disgusted with Seema continualy "empathizing" with those people like being moved to Westfield is like a death in the family. Her attitude was all wrong. No one up there said one positive thing about Westfield.
Not to be rude, but why didn't you speak in public?
NP- It take a very confident public speaker to stand up and tell a bunch of people to stop complaining about being moved to your kids school.
Not really, you can have intense emotions as well.
The truth of the matter is that NO ONE should have to be going to a meeting and begging FCPS to do their job.
+1 I have no kids in school currently, but I have followed boundary issues for a long time. My neighborhood as gone through all the western Fairfax boundary issues for decades. I do not recall ANY study being done in this manner. I think there were initial large meetings for the community that explained what the process would be before the study began. Then, the meetings held with SB members were more on an individual school basis. I do know our neighborhood had meetings with SB members and that "opposing" neighborhoods also had meetings to explain their views. I don't ever recall demeaning another school based on property values and elitism. The SB members NEVER made a promise to us. (In one of these studies, our SB member supported a different neighborhood to stay put over ours. However, we had a strong argument based on objective reasons for our school to stay over the other neighborhood. ) I have always been a proponent for proximity/community over status. It is the SB member's job to look out for all their constituents. It is clear that Dixit does not understand that.
I agree. This is the most insane and corrupt redistricting process I have ever seen. The "winners" are the ones who got promises "first", or have access to insider information, or donated to SB members re-elections? Rounds and rounds and rounds of "drafty drafts"? Maps being published and then hastily pulled down and edited on Reid's whims? No normal organization would go about things in this manner.
