There is no parallel here. Whether or not kids from the Oakton boundary were moved to Skyview or not has nothing to do with the movement of students out of Westfield.

If they were looking at this more sensibly they’d be moving some Oakton kids to Chantilly and moving some Chantilly kids to Westfield, so that Westfield ends up with closer to 2300 kids. We wouldn’t simply be gutting Westfield or proposing an alternative to shore up Westfield that guts Centreville.

It’s all fine and dandy for them to boast about moving as few kids as possible, but when they are moving over 1000 out of Westfield it’s a game changer for that school and they should have been thinking about a broader approach that wouldn’t end up turning Westfield into the next Lewis. Instead we’re leaving Oakton super-sized and trashing Westfield.

Centreville was built for less than 2000 students. There is no need to expand it to 3000 with open seats all over the Western part of the county. Its a huge waste of money. Where are you gong to get 1000 more students to fill up that building?

If you don't see the difference between pulling out 800+ students (and the associated teachers, and programming) from an existing school and keeping a school where its designed for and been at for years, I don't really know how to explain it to you.

I would scale back the scope of the Centreville expansion significantly but not entirely.

If you don’t see the inconsistency between claiming Westfield will flounder if it’s down to 2100 kids and asserting Centreville will be fine with 1800 or 1900 kids just because it currently has a shitty, under-sized facility, I don’t know how to explain it to you.

I have no kids in school currently, but I have followed boundary issues for a long time. My neighborhood as gone through all the western Fairfax boundary issues for decades.

I do not recall ANY study being done in this manner.
I think there were initial large meetings for the community that explained what the process would be before the study began.
Then, the meetings held with SB members were more on an individual school basis. I do know our neighborhood had meetings with SB members and that "opposing" neighborhoods also had meetings to explain their views.
I don't ever recall demeaning another school based on property values and elitism.
The SB members NEVER made a promise to us. (In one of these studies, our SB member supported a different neighborhood to stay put over ours. However, we had a strong argument based on objective reasons for our school to stay over the other neighborhood. )

I have always been a proponent for proximity/community over status.

It is the SB member's job to look out for all their constituents. It is clear that Dixit does not understand that.
