They don''t want average Americans to have any retirement [twitter]https://x.com/mmfa/status/1819063710985429331[/twitter]
Depends on the job. A Washington bureaucrat could work until they are 90 unless they first die of boredom. A road worker a Washington bureaucracy is supposed to help might have to retire at 62 because of body damage because OSHA laws are not enforced by the bureaucracy.
So they want people to work longer, but what happens when an elderly employee is no longer able to function at the level they were — be it due to early dementia, physical issues, etc? They (Project 2025) on one hand want to fire lower-performing employees (at least in the federal government), but they also want people to work longer. You can’t have it both ways.
Then the old employees retire and the low performing employees are fired. Would you want it any other way?
Maybe I didn’t explain myself very well. They want older people to work longer (i.e. retire later); however, issues come up with age that can affect performance (health issues could lead to more time away from work; dementia may begin; etc.). Obviously this is not with every older worker and we shouldn’t discriminate against older workers based solely on their age or health, but issues can come up more frequently with older workers that might make them less competitive than a younger worker and thus, more likely to be fired or let go. But if you keep pushing retirement age to later, you are going to leave a host of people who are vulnerable to job loss, yet unable to claim retirement benefits.
