PS. Nanny again- if I let the kids in my care fly down the stairs on cardboard boxes, I'd be fired. Why? Besides the fact that that isn't an appropriate activity it's COMPLETELY UNSAFE.
Boxriding is really fun. It also works well on hills outside, except hills are hard to find. Sledding is dangerous, as are bicycles and any number of wonderful things to do..trampolines, climbing trees...acorn fights...
Nanny, you're absurd. I did this all the time as a kid. We also did it w/o boxes, just slide down the stairs on our bottoms or tummies. I'm a nanny and this is how I teach toddlers to go down stairs before it's safe for them to walk down (slide on tummies not in boxes.) If an older kid wanted to careen down the stairs in a box, and the stairs were unobstructed at the bottom, I'd have no issue with it. It's fun, and a hell of a lot safer than riding in a car or walking across a street. Seriously, pick your battles a little more wisely.
Neither one of you who do stair sliding is very creative... a box isn't sturdy... your bottom or tummy... ouch... we always did pillows - the big bolster pillows when my parents were not home. Lots of fun. BUT, we lived in a single family house and I would never let my child do it. OP needs to get her kids out more - open gym's, bounce house, playground... sports activities to get the energy out. And, teach her kids NO and to be respectful. There needs to be come common sense when you are living in shared housing. Be considerate to your neighbors. If you want your kids to act out of control, move to the country where your nearest neighbors are a mile away.
