The Westfield-zoned folks who want to move to KAA and want to avoid Westfield pretend the area north of Route 50 is an attendance island when it isn’t, exaggerate the growth within the part of the Westfield district that would stay at Westfield, and under-estimate the number of Centreville kids who’d have to backfill Westfield if and when all these Westfield kids move to KAA. They are in a pickle because they clearly don’t want their kids to attend Westfield but others can see through their arguments and don’t want their kids moved there, either. They ought to convince Reid and Baenig to change the administration there if they think it’s so bad.
If you are so sure of this, why don't you run the numbers for us? And, while you are about it, you might check out the demographics of the schools going to Westfield from that area. Remember, that is McNair and Coates and only a part of Floris. Also, check out the amount of new construction in the area. It is substantial.
Here is the answer for you: the FARMS rate among the three Westfield feeders considered for KAA is higher than the Westfield average. So, is the English learner. And, there is LOTS of new construction between Westfield and 28--very close to Westfield. Also, quite a bit near Wegman's. And, Westfield is large enough to still be over 2000 without it. And, likely a lot more. I know nothing about the administration at Westfield. That really has nothing to do with the issue of distance from the school and the rest of the Westfield neighborhoods. But, five miles away is pretty significant from the rest of the neighborhoods.
