It was literally the first issue Krukoff listed!  Come on people, let’s do better next time.

DC Issues

Public Safety/Support Police and the Rule of Law: Crime is on the rise. We must invest in police and empower them to do their jobs, with empathy, but with the knowledge that we have their back. We need more police officers on the beat. A cost benefit analysis must occur prior to anyone breaking the law, even for a minor offense. Homeless encampments must be appropriately removed. Clean shelters with wrap around services must exist and be utilized for DC homeless residents that qualify.

DC Ward 3 resident for 20 plus years and registered Democrat although I consider myself independent ( which is impossible to be both in this city and the country). I voted for Krukoff. Despite the R next to his name he was the best choice and the only one focused on real issues, including crime. I’m also a federal prosecutor and the handwriting has been on the DC increasing violent crime rate wall for years.  I literally felt like I was the only one paying attention in the last election ( while all of my neighbors continue to fret about bike lanes) and here we are. DC voters are generally the worst and this is what happens with no true two party system.  And I’m about as progressive on most social issues as they come so please don’t assume I’m a MAGA, etc. [/quote]

New poster--Federal Prosecutor, I'm one of your neighbors who also voted for Krucoff and agrees with what you say 100%. I also would like to know what is happening with prosecutions when people (rarely) ARE arrested. Why the low rate, and what can we do. Also, what is up with the crime lab? How is that not due for a federal takeover. Is evidence just not being processed, or is it sent out of state? Thanks for your insights![/quote]

Neighbor prosecutor here. Can’t speak to the DC crime lab ( see my post above) but it’s a great question. Another example of a completely broken system imo. [/quote]

Neighbor again. My understanding after a quick search is that the work is being outsourced to contractors. Embarrassing what a cluster this appears to be. A systematic failure at so many levels. [/quote]
