GA isn’t even a league, and yet it’s enough of a league that here you are, on the GA thread, making sure that everyone knows that ECNL is the only top level league. Okay, got it. Anyone who looks at a list of the GA teams and says it isn’t a great league, please. There are plenty of teams that will be in that league that would be contenders in the ECNL at a minimum. And there are plenty of teams in the ECNL that would struggle in the GA, just as they do in the ECNL. Both leagues have great teams, both leagues have teams that struggle to keep up, and both leagues have teams that are in between.
Agreed. Time will tell though, but I would anticipate that it will be hard for GAL to continue to maintain the level of play it will have this first year. ECNL will continue to add clubs as they add showcases and/or overcome showcase limitations. There will be a greater movement of players from the younger ages to ECNL which will slowly reduce GAL to a second tier league like EDP.
In case you hadn’t heard already, ECNL is now full. They will not be adding more clubs.
I’m not sure many kids want to change clubs. Why would you go from training with the top players in the region on a normal roster size at a GA club to training with middling players at a roster size of 30 at an ECNL club? It seems like that would slow, stop or reverse a top player’s skill development. Of course some bench players will be looking to move, but the top players should, want to stick together so they can keep challenging each other.
Agree. These ECNLers think the talent of the players and the level of the rosters magically increased because the GDA went away. The players are the same, the coaches are the same. And if ECNL MA had let in the local GDA teams, FCV and Arlington would have been competing for playoff spots, MU likely near the bottom and VDA, McLean, BRYC and Loudoun about where they finished last year. It continues to amaze me that ECNLers cannot recognized that VDA was at the bottom of the MA division of GDA that they bash and now is middle of the pack in ECNL. That, by itself, is more evidence of the levels of the leagues. If the teams stay the same, ECNL players don't just magically become better and the GDA players become worse. That may be the dumbest theory posted on this board. Ever.
