I meant by PAYING them to stay at home and teach their children.  For instance, someone has 2 kids, and right now makes $15/hour or $600/week.  We would PAY them $600/week for homeschooling instead.  This is less than we are paying people to be on unemployment and much less than we pay teachers (some of whom could instead go onto unemployment while they are furloughed for the year).[/quote]
This may come as a revelation, but teachers have four year degrees, at a minimum, and are trained how to teach. Someone who is making $15/hr is unlikely to have a degree and is not trained to teach. Believe it or not, there is actual skill involved in teaching. We already have enough uneducated morons in this country, a point that we’ve all been made painfully aware of over the last three years. Plus you’re completely ignoring the socialization that goes on in a school environment. And the last thing we need is a bunch of fundamentalists teaching their kids from a religious point of view. And - oh, yeah - the teachers, people who have spent a lot of time and money to learn a profession. How about you get furloughed for a year and take a big pay cut on unemployment; I’m sure that would do wonders for your motivation. BTW, I’m not a teacher.[/quote]
