The brinksmanship spilled over and affected the staff in a move most now recognize as a mistake. But at its heart, the question was whether to insist on a $400,000 additional rainy day fund dollars at the expense of other priorities the Head supported. At the end of the day the Board and the Head reached an agreement that created the fund, didn't cost teachers, and preserved programmatic priorities. The Head is willing to push for what he believes in and that has enabled Bullis to change and innovate and grow dramatically over the past decade in terms of teaching and learning as well as athletics, facilities, and an incredible arts program.
