This thread describes my MIL. She has no dinner or wine for dinner. When she's getting crazy she'll have cheese and pear at dinner. Breakfast - yogurt. Lunch - maybe maybe not. When they visit us she talks about how she will be fasting the week she gets home. Also constant comments on what others are eating, including strangers, and the weight and size of others. So tiresome and judgmental
My mother sometimes..I feel sad because I know how she feels about her own body. Gives her power/ego boost when she sees MO or overweight ppl like "At least I am not that big." Mind you, this woman is not portly, just could alleviate her diabetes by losing 20lbs, I think. Whew, I do not miss living with her weight obsession, it is sad. And she was a health professional, btw, not that that means she would be any more 'woke' or immune to poor self-image. But this is sooooo dangerous when you have daughters. My goodness, I hope to have at least one daughter so I can raise a young woman differently, with positive body messages.
+1. I had an ED in my teens (nothing to do with my mom-she had no body image issues). One of my main motivators to be healthy, fit, and strong vs. skinny and obsessed with weight is to be a positive role model for my daughters.
