They protected Melania and kid in NYC for 6 months.   They can handle Ann Arbor.  The Secret Service are professionals.  It just costs more if you need more of them because of a location's difficulty.[/quote]

Yes, adult children have secret service protection.  That's why the Secret Service are hugely overbudget under Trump.  They have to follow Donnie, Ivanka, Tiffany and Eric around as they do their business trips and vacations around the world.[/quote]

Didn't Chelsea and the Bush twins have protection in college? I remember reading about it, and of course the Bush twins had a few jinks of their own and the protection weren't allowed to get involved other than just make sure they were not under threat.

Chelsea was in college while her father was still president (at least she started). Same with Jenna and Barbara Bush.

The rules were changed during Obama's presidency to give former presidents' lifetime protection (post-Clinton to Obama it was limited to 10 years thanks to a law Congress passed). The Obama-era legislation specifically limited post-presidency children to age 16 or younger.
