Security question and sure Jenna Bush had the same issue at Texas. How in the world does the Secret Service protect these children of Presidents? If Sasha is walking through the Diag or pops into Zingerman's for a sandwich, how can they watch her? Wouldn't it be easier at HYP or Stanford based on size?
They protected Melania and kid in NYC for 6 months. They can handle Ann Arbor. The Secret Service are professionals. It just costs more if you need more of them because of a location's difficulty.
How much security do adult children of former presidents actually get? I don't think adult children are routinely covered, although they may be able to request protection fora period of time.
Yes, adult children have secret service protection. That's why the Secret Service are hugely overbudget under Trump. They have to follow Donnie, Ivanka, Tiffany and Eric around as they do their business trips and vacations around the world.
Former president's children over the age of 16 continue to have Secret Service protection. Immediate family of current president have Secret Service protection -- and all those Trump kids travel far more internationally and lavishly than their predecessors, which drives up the cost.
This is incorrect. Children of Presidents have protection up to 16 years old. The kids do not have protection while in college. Read your article.
Didn't Chelsea and the Bush twins have protection in college? I remember reading about it, and of course the Bush twins had a few jinks of their own and the protection weren't allowed to get involved other than just make sure they were not under threat.
Chelsea was in college while her father was still president (at least she started). Same with Jenna and Barbara Bush. The rules were changed during Obama's presidency to give former presidents' lifetime protection (post-Clinton to Obama it was limited to 10 years thanks to a law Congress passed). The Obama-era legislation specifically limited post-presidency children to age 16 or younger. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/obama-restores-lifetime-secret-service-for-former-presidents/
