I guess the thing that I don't get is how or why Bruce would have worked out the way he did to develop his muscles and be in the spotlight as a top male athlete if he was so uncomfortable with his male physique. Also I don't understand how he could have sex as a man with women and still not identify with himself as male in his own mind. It is clear that something has been going on with this guy for a while. But it is confusing to understand.
It's kind of like all the gay guys who go into the military to sort of prove to themselves that they AREN'T gay -- they go over the top trying to be masculine, but in the end, it doesn't work and they can't hide from their own inner voice saying "I'm gay." that was something that came out in the interview -- he jumped 100% into being the ideal vision of masculinity to convince himself that the female urges weren't going to take over.... but ultimately it doesn't/didn't work. It's like over-compensation. It made a lot of sense to me. I was surprised it had been going on so long. I will always think of him as the Wheaties guy... all American athlete. Bruce 2.0 is going to be a totally different statement.
