I like the size of JMU too, but I do also have a DC at VT and was amazed at how *not* huge it actually feels.  The campus is pretty compact, residential halls on one side and academic buildings on the other.  You don't have to take a bus around campus the way you would at a lot of other big schools.  My DC absolutely loves it there.[/quote]

No, that's what I was saying.  They can walk to their classes and dorms.  Once they live off campus, then yes - many take a bus to their various neighborhoods.  But when on campus day-to-day, there's no need to take a bus anywhere.[/quote]

No worries!  JMU was like this too, if I recall.  There is East Campus, but there are pedestrian walkways you can take to get there.  I can't remember if shuttle buses were needed to get around campus, but I don't believe so. [/quote]

DP.  There are shuttle buses at JMU, but they are not necessarily necessary. It's a good workout, especially if you need to rush from one edge of campus to another. It's the hills! A shuttle may be helpful if you're rushing from west campus to the farthest buildings on east, though it's still a very walkable distance. I haven't been to VT - is it just as hilly, or does it sit in a flat area?

I think once you get used to a campus, nothing is as far away as it first seemed. I remember walking my schedule before the first day of classes at my college and thought I'd never make it from my psych class to English in the 15 minutes between. I tested out of English and ended up not having to find out for sure; but after being there a little while, it was laughable to think how I wouldn't have made it between those two particular buildings in time.  Especially my last semester when I literally had to book it from one corner of campus to the diagonally opposite corner in less than 15 minutes. [/quote]
