DS just graduated from Uchicago in CS and Econ, currently looking for work and failing.
We went to the summer open house at Chicago last Friday and the admissions director said that 99% of the class was employed or matriculating to graduate school AT GRADUATION this year. The admissions director reiterated this several times "not 6 months following graduation, AT graduation, 99% of our graduating seniors knew what they are doing this coming fall." Is this not truthful?
Yes this is a lie. That is way too high!
there are lies damn lies and statistics.... The job market is downright terrible for recent grads. My younger brother graduated from UVA with a degree in CS from University of Virginia school of Engineering & Materials Science in December 2023 (FWIW, it costs an extra 10k/year to attend school of Engineering & Materials vs. Arts and Sciences), and he also had two previous internships, one after his sophomore, and another one after his junior year. Despite all of that, he has been looking for employment for the past five months. If recent grads from CMU are having trouble looking for a job, it is much worse for UVA grads. Three of his friends are getting jobs because they have connections from family members. If you are a recent grad, and you are employed, consider yourself very lucky.
