Guess she got lucky because right out of college she landed and intern position, then became permanent, got her TS with Poly, laid off after 2years (quite a few of them due to budget cuts) and had several offers after two weeks of looking.
So judging by the her timeframe guess there's a glut in the market. Tell the kids keep looking and apply all over - forget the entry salary it's the experience that counts.
What is “TS with Poly”?
Top Secret clearance with Polygraph.
Got it…assume that helps a ton no matter your degree…people tell me having clearance can be more important than your degree and a company will train you in almost anything because getting clearance is a huge pain.

Are the only kids getting jobs in CS and Engineering? Pretty depressing that we are getting ready to shell out our savings so kid can go back to grad school that we can't afford to help with. I guess that's how colleges claim "99%" employed or going to grad school. There should be a requirement to break out employment as well as employed in field of study.

We went to the summer open house at Chicago last Friday and the admissions director said that 99% of the class was employed or matriculating to graduate school AT GRADUATION this year.
The admissions director reiterated this several times "not 6 months following graduation, AT graduation, 99% of our graduating seniors knew what they are doing this coming fall."
Is this not truthful?
Yes this is a lie. That is way too high!
Maybe; maybe not. U Chicago is among the top 5 universities in the nation. Great employment/placement/grad school stats. U Chicago & Northwestern are both slightly under-ranked due to their non-coastal locations.
Not sure why the need to inflate Chicago’s ranking…as it hasn’t been top 5 for years (was it ever?). Also, ridiculous to think their location somehow skews their rankings.
