The Italians in NY/NJ have resisted the D trend of suburbia. Nassau, Suffolk, Bergen etc. should be 10 points more D than they actually are. The difference seems to be the Italian vote.
This is basically what we have in the Boston suburbs too
The Boston suburbs are a lot more D than NYC suburbs though. Is there a discernible Italian vote in the Boston area?
I’d have to disagree. Boston Proper and suburbs hide behind a neutral veil. I live in NY, and also lived in Boston (North End). Of course, the further north you go, the veil comes off. New Englanders are permanently clenched and repressed. I can say this because my outlaws (DH family) all Republicans. Odd because some are blonde, blue eyed Italians who think they’re of Kennedy lineage. Odd ducks. The discernible vote is GenZ. Lots of college students stick around after graduating. Lots to love about Boston, if you can get past the Southerners of the North.
