So let me get this straight-public schools with power are closed while private schools with power remain open. Makes perfect sense. [/quote]

Public schools that have to decide for a whole system where some schools, students, teachers, and staff have power and some do not are a lot more difficult to handle than one school, which has not lost power, where the status of teachers and staff can be ascertained relatively quickly.
