If Democrats want to live the pain of their child wanting to transition or experiment with gender switching, have at it. It's not all happy and glory if you go all in on what your child want, trust me, I know. There is a lot of hate thrown back at the parents because "you should have known this when I was really little and I lost valuable time". Any question you ask, even if you think it's a supportive question is often met with hostility. Consider the angst of adolescence magnified by 10.
Yes I would want my kid to have the option if it was something we as a family decide is best. I do not want the government interfering.
You honestly think that you as a family will decide? Good luck with that. Your kid gets hostile because the schools start that process - turning them away from you.
-1 The idea that schools "indoctrinate" is the hallmark of the loony right, embraced by all GOP because they use fear to motivate their followers.
Couldn't agree more, and that's why dollars need to follow students. Let's give vouchers so ALL parents can Choose among ALL schools. Since schools don't indoctrinate, only a far right loony would oppose such an obvious policy.
What is the point of religious schools other than indoctination? The mission statement is to turn out adherents to the faith. It's not like they say "wow, 24% of the graduating class is well adjusted existentialists , 6% chose Buddhism, 35% are agnostic but actively seeking..." But back to transgender, none of my kids comes back from public school with the idea that they should actively think about transitioning. Nobody is forcing them to believe in the causes of transgenderism, what God thinks about transgenderism. There is no survey course for kids to pick out their gender identity. They are not indoctrinated. They are not taught anything other than that some of their classmates are transgender, and they should be treated with the same respect given to other kids in school. The right has contorted the notion of indoctrination in such a way that mere coexistence with a transgender child is explicit endorsement of that decision. So if you don't ostracize the transgender child, you are doing the work of the enemy.
How old are your kids? No one cares about the individual child in that regard. We do worry when there are large swaths of youth (well above statistical norm) declaring themselves the opposite sex. It's not hard to be compassionate towards the kids. The problem is there are adults all to ready to help them in their journey. These same adults who tell us the brain isn't fully developed till mid-twenties. There is more than just a simple 'be kind' message going on.
