[/quote] Devil's advocate here: With the previous police incident in Moab, he knew he would be pinned as person-of-interest. In the case of an accidental fall, there is really no way to prove his innocence. He knows a prosecutor will go for a manslaughter/murder charge because of the publicity. He does the math and realizes he has no money to pay for a private attorney for a lengthy criminal trial. So he flees and doesn't talk to anyone but his lawyer. Is it morally atrocious? Yes. But is it the best way to remain out of prison and no go in debt? Absolutely. This is a basic, heartless cost-benefit analysis. [/quote]
