I don’t know, seems unlikely that someone would take off cross country if they could just report it as an accidental fall at the time.

There is no requirement to ever talk to the police, the FBI, Congress, etc. The only time you have to talk is when compelled by the courts. And even then, you can claim the 5th Amendment or simply answer "I do not recall."
Watch some of the videos of Donald Trump in legal depositions. He's actually really smart and a master at not providing any information to opposing attorneys. He pretty much always answers "I do not recall" to any question that may open himself to liability or other lines of questioning. If you stonewall at every turn, you can very likely get away with whatever you did.
Is it a d-bag move? Yes, but the smartest thing you can do as a person of interest.
Well, that and pray the police find no biological evidence in the van. But again, no body, no crime. Even if the police do find blood in the van, which it kind of sounds like they may have, you have these documented incidents of fighting that can be used to explain the blood.
Until a body is found, I believe the scum will remain free and silent.
That's not what happened with Suzanne Morphew's husband or Jennifer Dulos' husband. Neither a body or hint of a body has been found in either case. Although in the former's case they found a hotel room absolutely covered in bleach. I think in the later they found some blood in her garage.
But both are/were on trial for murder of their spouses/ex-spouse.

BTW This case has haunted me for years.

But in the name of social media and YouTube they felt the need to carry on. It's a cautionary tale for others. The van life is not this care-free fun lifestyle.

Speaking as someone who has experienced emotional and psychological abuse and the insidious nature of it, as well as how abusers are well-versed at making the other person feel or look "crazy/crazier", these reports raised a lot of red flags in my mind when it comes to Brian.
Yeah but what about her? The report says she started it by slapping Brian. I think they're both mentally unstable and it's unfortunate they weren't taking medication.
It’s totally her fault that he likely brutally murdered her and disposed of her in a fun-filled cross-country journey, and is now stonewalling her parents. Totally think she should be taking responsibility post-mortem. Do you have a blog or site you can share where you post your other insights? I’d love to add a follow.
Case solved by the arm chair detective!

Initial comments from Websleuths on the video:
Right at 2:59 Gabby begins explaining to the officer that she's trying to get a travel blog website going and that she's stressed out from working on a video and "...he doesn't really believe I can do any of it..." So yes, they were indeed trying to get a social media gig going and it sounds (as I had suggested Monday) it's a lot harder than people think it is and can be incredibly stressful especially when you're making it on the road. It also sounds like Brian was not supportive of it and perhaps critical.
Just watching this now, and seeing all kinds of red flags, but one that sticks out is when the officer walks back over to Brian, and asks if he or Gabby are on any medication. He replies, "she's crazy," and laughs and waves his hands, like he's just told a hilarious joke to the officers. At 17:05.
He doesn't believe in what she is doing, and he stresses her out. Those are Gabby's words. So terribly sad that this beautiful young girl chose the WRONG person for her, to travel across country. She needed someone who didn't belittle her and criticize the one thing she wanted to do, the blog. She needed someone who wanted to do the same thing. Prayers, prayers, prayers. I can't listen to him.
Just watched the full hour body cam. Incredibly disturbing. She is so scared and innocent and the cops make him the victim. Lots of tropes about “crazy female” who was “clawing at him” with her nails. Meanwhile he presents as a choir boy and joking around with officers the entire time. I cannot believe they left her alone and sent him to a hotel. As a dad to a little girl I am sick. IMO Brian displays the ability to convince the officers he is the good guy while she takes the fall and the charges.
THIS. ALL OF THE ABOVE.
I am the PP who read the police reports and posted that as someone who has experienced that type of abuse, those police reports were full of red flags about Brian. This video confirms it. And yes, most police officers are ill-equipped to see what is REALLY going on. That video is horrible to watch. Brian is a sociopath and I hope the investigative work on this case brings justice for Gabby and her family. Just horrendous. I cannot imagine being her parents and watching that; sickening to see her so distraught and sickening to watch his performance.
Anyone who's dealt with a domestic abuse situation can recognize right away what's going on here. This is really hard to watch, knowing what we know now.
