Agreed. And anyone moving to McLean would have to pass a background check to make sure they are of the right demographic. As a PP mentioned up thread, we don’t our resources to help those living in Annandale or Springfield. So we must ensure that only a certain demographic can move to McLean.

it's entirely about demographics, rich people don't like title I schools getting more funding and attention so they want to break away to keep their tax dollars away from the poorer schools. It's not about avoiding integrated schools; it's about taking care of neglected schools (and roads, commercial areas, and so on).

Feel free to make your case about why people in McLean should gladly accept, for example, FCPS spending $40M to expand West Potomac HS to 3000 seats (in large part, by the way, so kids won't have to attend under-enrolled Mount Vernon a few miles away) but saddle McLean HS with a cheap modular.  But you might want to read up on tipping points first.

McLean's test scores are declining now.  Enrollment is down this year when it should have been up.  People are starting to vote with their feet.  The high school is a poster child for a neglected facility:
