Things can go from smooth to emergency with little warning. You could live next door to the hospital, even then, there is no way you are going to go from at home in your bed to sliced open in the OR in under 10 minutes. Every minute counts when a baby is being deprived of oxygen. Those extra minutes to get to the hospital and get prepped could be the difference between life and death or permanent brain injury.
