I had sworn by OBX, but the water was uncomfortably freezing end July, and the lack of waves were such that our surfing lesson had to be cancelled. The sand was so burning hot on the beach, flip flops were insufficient - and there were dragon flies everywhere (apparently from lack of breeze in over 100 degree F weather). I found the exact opposite in MA - beautiful, clear beaches, and less people on the beaches - the water was perfect, and more than enough activities for everyone of all ages, IF we wanted. No one was afraid of being alone or quiet, or whatever other PP claimed. I know some people are married to OBX, but we no longer are. [/quote]
